As technology has evolved over the years, we have been fairly successful to tap and transport our basic senses like hearing and seeing. However, long distance smelling is still an idea which has remained elusive to us. Not any more if the smelly scientists at Tokyo Institute of technology have their way!
The new device developed In Tokyo has 15 different smell sensors which analyze the smell(storing them in digital format) and then reproduce them by mixing 96 different chemicals. Once vaporized, the user can get the smell of red roses while sitting in Antarctica and the smell of fresh salmon all the way in the Sahara.
An enticing idea, which would surely have a huge impact on the media and entertainment industry. The only roadblock right now is its size (1m by 3ft by 2ft.) which could take a while to reach portable proportions.
Well looking at the brighter side, I still don’t have to take a bath before chatting with my girlfriend!
