Good news for mobile phone users. A patent has been requested for a mobile phone which would include light panels to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
It is interesting to know that people who suffer from SAD experience normal mental health usually round the year but suffer from depressive symptoms during winter. This disorder is also said to be prevalent in mid-latitude places i.e. places with mild winters since it is related to daylight and not temperature.
This patent would enable the phone to include number of light panels on the face of the phone which would make use of ‘light therapy’ on users face while the phone is in use.
People suffering from SAD are recommended the use of bright lights at a dose of 10,000 lux for 30-60 minutes everyday. Thus the lights from the phone would help to soothe the patient.
