Where is the chain?

When I remember my school days, the first thing that comes to my mind are the long yet pleasurable bike rides from home to school. And when I think of bike rides, the first thing that ironically comes to my mind is the bloody chain of the cycle which at times was pretty useful(for those chain fights) but mostly was a pain with something or the other getting stuck in the chain and the awful maintenance drill associated with them.

Well, if Dekra D-drive(Direct drive) system is to be believed the only chain you would be pulling is the one on your trouser after taking a leak!

Power from the pedals is transferred to the back wheel of the bike via an enclosed shaft that works alongside a bevel gear

system. The shaft itself is made of a lightweight yet durable aluminum alloy and should survive even the roughest of rides. The setup even allows for a three-speed Shimano gear system for ‘optimized pedaling efficiency.’ The biggest advantage of having all the gears and drive shaft enclosed is that the D-Drive system never requires cleaning, lubrication or maintenance.

Sounds great! But does it work as well as it claims to? If you are willing to experiment with $300 and are ready to share the information with me, you can check it out here.
